How to Start a Ostrich Farm | Ostrich normally lives in gathering. The expected life recycle of an Ostrich from 30 to 70 years. Ostrich basically is a very innocent / big bird on the earth. 

The suitable climate for this bird is considered between 30 and -30 ^oC. In the modern era, almost 40 to 50 countries are already working on the Ostrich Farming and getting good income through its products i.e meat, feathers, leather and eggs.

Breeding 

One male is enough for mating for two to three females. At one time female lays 20 to 24 eggs and during breeding season, the female lays between 80 to 100 eggs.

As a largest bird, the female lays the largest egg as compare to the any other bird. The length of the egg is 17 to 19 cm and 14 to 15 cm width. 2 to 4 years age of female is considered good for eggs lying.  In Pakistan breeding season start from March and close around August / September.

The farming of Ostrich is easy and profitable as compare with Cattle Farming and Poultry Farming. For establishing a farm, 2 kanal raw areas, 6 feet high fence, 150 feet running area, make one shad at one side of the farm for protection of rain and cold and for one person who has basic information working as guardian of the farm. 

Normally for establishing farm winter season is considered good for it. Initially, a person can start starts farming with 25 chicks ( 4 weeks or older) and chicks can be purchased from any Ostrich Farm or African countries. Incubation time to hatch between 39 to 45 days. 

Diet Plan 

Ostrich likes various insects and rodents. The diet consists normally on roots, leaves, and seeds, but ostriches eat everything whatever is available on running area. Sometimes, they consume snakes, insects, rodents and lizards, therefore, during making farm, land should be cleaning properly because ostrich is a foolish bird and has not sense to eat each and every thing, which will be cause of death and illness so that you should be clean everything like pieces of glass, key chains, shopping bags etc.   

They also swallow sand and pebbles, which can helps for grind up their food in stomach.For small chicks, you will gave thin chips and increase the size of chips according to the size, which is a good source of calcium. In the green feed, you will use “Lusan”, which is normally available in the market and you will also grow your own crop.

Ostriches have not needed to drink water; they fulfill all the water from the plants which they eat. Normally in a day they eat almost 2.1kg food. The food cost of Ostrich is $50/month for chicks, $75/month for yearlings and $100/month for adults (2 years and older).

Ostrich produce precious feathers, which are used for cleaning of fine machinery, equipment and other decoration items.

Ostrich also produce red meat, which have similar taste as like veal and beef and meat is good source of protein. Normally, its meat sell in market Rs.1000 to Rs.1500 per kg. It can say it is good source of income.

Ostrich have also a source of exclusive leather, which will use for shoes making, women bags and other precious items.

The wonderful oil also produce from the fat of ostrich, which will very useful for sunburn, drying skin, blisters, psoriasis, skin cuts, bed sores, chapped lips, canker sores, sore muscles, skin abrasions, radiation burn relief etc.

Marketing Plan for Selling Ostrich

For Selling Ostrich and its products, marketing plan should be comprehensive and based on advance techniques. In this connection, you should be used social media accounts like own website, blog, use of online selling websites like Olx, Alibaba, Amazon etc, Face book, instagram, Google +, Whats app groups, you Tube, SMS marketing and also targeted through emails / written letters, physical marketing through publicity material like leaflets, broachers, flex banners, key chains etc.

You should also increase profit through arrange social media campaigns, conferences, Seminars and You Tube Channels.
